The spade is very useful for rotating the ground but it is not going to get rid of the clumps. A hoe will help in getting rid of the remaining clumps and will better mix the soil. It is hard work using the spade but you should be more cautious with the hoe and the rake. After the hoe job is finished, then you use the rake to make the bed fine and smooth.
